Giveaway: 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu
On July 6th, 2019, The Cache Valley Cruising Association will present its 35th grand prize vehicle to some lucky person. That evening they will drive away in a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, painted Moss Green Metallic with Black SS stripes over an SS hood. Under that hood is an ever-reliable Chevy 350 small block engine, with a Turbo-Hydramatic 350 transmission to send the power onward. The interior is black, and features bucket seats and Chevy’s iconic “horseshoe” shifter in the center console. Creature comforts include power disk brakes, power steering, and air conditioning.
As always, the CVCA has a few improvements in mind. Hefty front and rear swaybars will curb that ‘70s “wallow” tendency on the curves, while a TH 700R-4 overdrive transmission and 3.73:1 gears on a positraction carrier in the original 8.2” Chevy 10-bolt rear end will allow snappy acceleration and high-speed cruising comparable to a modern muscle car. We’ll add a little bling under the hood with some chromed or performance-coated parts and make the driving experience a little more pleasant with the addition of a tilt steering column and upgrading the original 1971 A/C system to use modern components better suited to today’s R134-a refrigerant.
Our goal has always been to present the lucky winner with a vehicle that is beautiful and loads of fun to drive, and we’re sure this ’71 Chevelle Malibu will carry on that tradition.
